i bought the tamron last week ($1,199 at bh). i was pleasantly surprised by the autofocus. i felt like a few overall images were a hair soft, but that's probably because i mostly shoot at f/11. i will try a faster aperture, since that's recommended in the video. maybe f/8 will be a better compromise, though, since i like less bokeh with wildlife shots. regardless, it was a very enjoyable experience, and i had like 10 people stop me to ask about the lens, since it's a looker.

Can you tell me if I should buy xt1 or xt2 ?

I've previously owned sigma lenses and sold all of it because the auto focus is slower versus the company's own lenses. It may have affected the actual performance of both cameras on auto focus tracking and image rendering.

Hi mate great vid, liked and subscribed. As a beginner I’m looking to get either the R7 or R8 but trapped between which ones to choose. I’m making a massive step up considering my previous camera was a starter kit (2000D) Do you think I will notice The drawbacks to some of the cameras? I think because I’m making this big of a jump it will be like using something from the future haha. Would appreciate your thoughts, thank you.

That hunting for focus is so disappointing. I hope Fuji can catch up to Sony soon. I can't stand the ergonomics of Sony cameras, but the autofocus is just unrivalled.

Hi mathieu! I know I’m late here. Question about IS. If I disable the image stabilisation when half press the shutter the IS is equal efficient for my photos? I don’t like the lag in evf/lcd when I release the button. Thank you!

it's also the first time I hear the very valid point about the smaller viewfinder, thanks also for the in depth testing on the impact of IBIS in the real world, if you really need such low shutter speeds you should use a tripod...impressive!

regarding the 'lightweight', it's a moot point tbh as good glass is not small or light anyway, had to learn this the hard way going to a lighter fuji setup which became heavy adding a 16-55

I would not even consider the A7RV for BIF. Sensor readout speed forces mechanical shutter, mechanical shutter max FPS is too slow, and shutter blackout cripples AF on faste(er) moving subjects. I don't think the A7rVis intended for BIF; smaller sensor cameras (A9 series) and/or A1 are intended/better suited for BIF.

I actually own a RX10IV, very satisfied, amazing capabilities for a 1" sensor with 600mm max zoom and 72cm min focus distance but ... low light is a pain because of the 1" sensor (LR new AI denoise can do miracles but not always), and when I go out I want to be able to get far birds and deers as clsoe butterflies and bees. The Tamron may be the one that would make me switch from RX10 to FF camera but missing custom button is a problem as I want to instantly switch to my BIF mode settings to catch a bird in flight (I assigned RX10 custom button to auto tracking mode + 1/1000 + 10fps + 1EV) and the sony cameras do not have for example front custom button like Panasonic that could be temporaly pushed with the same hand that old the camera.

That really not looks like 5 frames shot per second. Can count the shots easily, which really irritates me as many years user of 7rii

Interesting results, My tests on the A6700 came to completely opposite conclusions. The Sigma was the best and almost all photos were sharp. From the Tamron and especially from the Sony, many photos, even though the AF point was in the right place, looked as if there was back focus or front focus. The Sigma, on the other hand, did not have this problem, although it was slightly slower. However, it definitely had the best stabilization.

Hello at 24:53 what do you mean "Higher resolution versus APS-C mode" ? from my understanding if you use APS-C mode on the Sony "R" it will just crop the picture "realtime" not better than a photoshop crop, you will not reach more distance and worse you will get less FOV to follow the bird as it will be reduced by the realtime crop.

I have both cameras. I bought the X-H2s first then the X-H2 for the higher resolution to be able to crop more while retaining more sharpness and resolution. However in practice I can see no difference at all when cropping from either camera. It seems I'm not the only one finding this: ruclips.net/video/Px8V_rKa3H4/видео.html&ab_channel=MikeRiley Despite what Fuji claim, I suspect that the lenses just can't resolve the extra MP of the X-H2 (I'm using the xf100-400 and xf70-300 for wildlife).

Love your videos. So in depth for newbies like myself. Great job. My question is- on my info screen I keep seeing a setting ‘FLK’ and I can’t figure out what this is and what it means. Could someone explain please? I would like to know the acronym and what it is saying that the camera is doing?

I’ve been blown away with mine, just was a long time 1D series user thinking nothing was better but this blows my 1DXm3 out of the water. It may not be as well built but its focusing system is worlds different. The only thing I’m not keen on and maybe it’s a setting I’ve not discovered but in mechanical shutter mode trying to track a bird in flight is impossible, the blackout on the EVF is terrible, but like I said it could be a setting. I can’t think how much better if anything the R1 will be.

The rf 85mm f2 is a really slow lens to be testing autofocus on both cameras. The lens bottlenecks both of them. Try using an rf 70-200 2.8 that is lightening fast to spot the real differences.

The holy grail of travel lenses..... it really doesn't get any better than this. Well, unless someone made a 24-150mm f/4 full frame lens.... (closest is the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4)

I am surprised to see you got fewer sharp photos than the A7RIV ! Would it be the same with a fully side-by-side comparison !? I can also see you had steadyshot off and Hi speed setting, there must also be some of the other settings that can be better !? If the Lens was the Sony 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 G, then it is know that there are problems with stabilizer for the R-series cameras !

Do you use auto ISO !? I will recommend to use either 100 ISO or 320 ISO in good light situations, the sensor have a dual gain, so the 320 ISO setting is better than than 250 and 400 for dynamic range ! The noise level at 320 is about the same as at ISO 125 and 160 and ISO 320 have better noise level than ISO 200, 250, 400+

10:07 R8 has less noise than R6 in photo that is unexpected coz 20 mp should be more clean lol

There is a fine tuning available to catch the eyes of birds,look at the video in english at 1' to 1'55" everything is well ! 😊

26:55 I wasnt aware that this icon exist! I use the X-H2s also for MSFT Teams, of course in FHD only, as we have shitty internet in Germany. But: The cam is directly behind the window and sometime 1h or longer in the sun while running.

Why is there this problem that telezooms are apparently only for wildlife , absolutely all tests are only wildlife this wildlife that , not about for example architecture or longrange landscape where you can’t get close for environmental or security reasons. For those sharpness is far more important but it’s always af on a bird that i don’t care , with only acceptable sharpness due to movement ,that doesn’t help for people like me to know which one is better.

I shoot on A6700 and noticed a very strange thing. I tested 4 supertele lens - Sony 200-600, Tamron 150-500, Sigma 150-600 Sport (E) and 150-600 Contemporary from Canon EF MC-11 converter. With all my surprise Sony and Tamron lens has exactly same issue which you describe, alote shot are miss focused. On Sigma lenses this not accruing almost at all, i don't understand how this is possible, especially on Sony but that was my results. I even tested 3 different units of Sony 200-600 and all have the same issue. AF was tracking and was blazing fast but when I check pictures a hole bunch of them were miss focused. Of course, I tested all of them on BIF.

Sony is by far better BUT i have all canon equipment. Ugh.
